Autism Awareness

  • 26 Steps

About

Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental difference that affects how people experience, understand, and interact with the world around them. Every autistic person is unique. Some autistic individuals may require significant support, while others live highly independent lives. Autism is not an illness or disease and should not be viewed as something that needs to be "fixed." As companions, it is important to understand autism, recognise individual differences, support communication preferences, and create inclusive environments that promote wellbeing, dignity, independence, and participation. This course provides an introduction to autism and equips learners with practical strategies to provide effective, person-centred companionship support.
