About
Companions work closely with individuals from diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and health conditions. Occasionally, companions may encounter behaviours that are challenging, distressing, confrontational, or difficult to understand. Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred approach that focuses on understanding why behaviours occur and supporting individuals in ways that improve wellbeing, maintain dignity, reduce distress, and enhance quality of life. The aim is not to control behaviour but to understand its causes, reduce triggers, promote positive outcomes, and respond safely and compassionately. This training helps companions recognise behavioural concerns, understand underlying causes, communicate effectively, de-escalate situations, and maintain personal safety while supporting individuals respectfully.
