Cultural Competency

  • 52 Steps

About

Companionship services support people from a wide range of cultural, ethnic, religious, linguistic, social, and personal backgrounds. Cultural competency is the ability to work respectfully and effectively with people whose beliefs, values, traditions, experiences, and lifestyles may differ from our own. A culturally competent companion recognises diversity, challenges personal assumptions, respects individual preferences, and adapts support to meet the unique needs of each person. This training helps learners develop the awareness, knowledge, and skills required to provide inclusive, respectful, person-centred companionship services that uphold dignity, equality, and human rights.
